1. That’s an interesting point/That’s a good idea:
Đó là một ý kiến hay – dùng để thể hiện sự đồng tình với quan điểm của người đối diện.
Ví dụ:
- From what I read, a lot says that your response to the outside society partially reflects how you have been treated.
- That’s an interesting point, we could start by outlining what previous research has shown.
2. Can’t argue with that/I can’t argue that:
Không thể cãi lại điều đó được – Dùng để khẳng định sự đồng ý hoặc đánh giá cao với một ý kiến được nêu ra.
Ví dụ:
- The slides are so well-designed. That helps me to understand the presentation more easily!
- Yeah, can’t argue with that!
3. I can see how that might be true/correct:
Tôi có thể thấy tại sao điều đó có thể là thật – Thể hiện sự đồng ý nhưng không hoàn toàn, cần nghe kỹ thông tin theo sau để xác nhận thái độ người nói.
Ví dụ:
- According to the survey, only children are usually more naughty, selfish and tend to centralize themselves.
- I can see how that might be true, I can relate to my own situation.
4. Okay/That’s right/That’s (fairly) true/Good/Exactly:
Đúng/Chính xác/… – dùng để thể hiện sự đồng tình với quan điểm của người nói. Tùy vào ngữ cảnh cuộc đối thoại những từ/cụm từ này còn có tác dụng chuyển ý, kết thúc, tiếp tục cuộc hội thoại.
Ví dụ:
- So, for the department anniversary day, our club needs to plan an exhibition on Swedish life and literature in the past century – around the beginning of the 20th century?
- That’s right. We’ll have some people to find us the materials first.
5. I would imagine so:
Tôi cũng nghĩ có thể sẽ như vậy (gần giống với I think so) – Thể hiện sự đồng tình, nhưng thường là chủ quan chứ không dựa trên một căn cứ cụ thể.
Ví dụ:
- So supposedly some students and lecturer will come to the workshop?
- I would imagine so, but I have been told to invite other categories of people too!
6. I did agree:
Tôi rất đồng ý – Từ “did” thể hiện sự nhấn mạnh
Ví dụ:
- I know we didn’t talk about this in the previous discussion but I felt bringing some materials is more than with a bare hand. So, I have bought some books about the topic we’re going to work on.
- Luckily for you, I did agree! Let’s have a look!
7. I see/I see what you mean (by that):
Tôi hiểu những gì bạn đang muốn diễn đạt – Thể hiện sự lắng nghe và hiểu ý kiến hay vấn đề đang được trình bày bởi người đối diện.
Ví dụ:
- According to what I read, newspapers sometimes give wrong or misleading information, which makes it easier to draw readers’ attention to their article. I don’t think that’s good at all.
- Gosh, I see what you mean. I know why it is so controversial now.
8. I wouldn’t be surprised (if that happen):
Tôi sẽ không bất ngờ nếu điều đó diễn ra – Thể hiện thái độ đối với sự việc, đôi khi là một quan điểm, rằng những điều được trình bày hoặc những điều sắp diễn ra sẽ không ngoài ý muốn.
Ví dụ:
- Several different technical methods are applied in fixing this machine, but it still doesn’t work!
- I wouldn’t be surprised, though. The problem is not how we fixed it, this machine is just too old!
9. It’s hard to see how they can be wrong:
Thật khó để nghĩ rằng những điều đó là không đúng – Thể hiện sự đồng tình của người nói, thường là sau một quá trình ngắn suy ngẫm hoặc tự phản biện.
Ví dụ:
- As long as people keep using plastic, for example, plastic bags and plastic straws, the garbage will still be dumped into the seas, no matter how good the filter process is
- I want to argue with that, but it’s hard to see how it can be true. After all, it can’t be solved without us taking any action.
10. I suppose you’re right:
Tôi nghĩ là bạn đúng
Ví dụ:
- That test won’t be easy to handle.
- Based on how he has revised us, yeah, I suppose you’re right.
